Things To Do

During all four seasons, Copper King Lodge is a cool & scenic Red River mountain retreat. There are always plenty of activities to fill your days, or you can just catch up on some good ole fashion R&R by enjoying the beautiful, scenic views that surround our lodge. From skiing in the winter to fishing in the summer, Red River lives up to its nickname, "The Mountain Playground of the Southern Rockies."

OHV Permits

Red River Community House

 

Check out the historic Red River Community House website for a list and description of all the FREE family friendly activities offered every summer. Guided hikes, aerobics, childrens' crafts and nature walks are only a few of the many activities offered.

Carson National Forest
 
The Carson National Forest which surrounds Red River is 1.5 million acres of mountain playground. Elevations range from 6,000 feet to 13,161 on Wheeler Peak (New Mexico's highest point). Activities include fishing, hunting, camping, hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling.

 

Bobcat Pass Wilderness Adventures

Red River Ski Area
 
Visit this website for information on winter snow skiing, ski lessons, guided snowmobile tours, summer chair lift rides, and snowfall and grooming reports.
 

Cross Country Ski and Snowshoe Area
 
Cross country skiing and snowshoeing only minutes from the heart of Red River. Over 33km of trails for classic and freestyle skiing and 15km devoted to snowshoeing.

 

New Mexico Wineries

Cimarron, New Mexico
 
Take a drive through the scenic Cimarron Canyon to the historic town of Cimarron. Only 50 minutes east of Red River, it is full of history and numerous outdoor activities.

The Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad
 
Built in 1880, the Cumbres Toltec is the finest example of steam era mountain railroading in North America. View the breathtaking scenery as you wind your way in and out of the mountains of northern New Mexico and southern Colorado.
 

Taos Pueblo
 
Dating back to between 1000 and 1450 A.D., the Pueblo appears today much as it did then. See the way the Pueblo Indians lived over 1000 years ago and browse the curio shops filled with handmade pottery, jewelry, leather goods and drums.
 

Valle Vidal
 
Valle Vidal, or "The Valley of Life", is one of New Mexico's most well kept secrets. Take a 50 mile drive through the Valle from Cimarron to Costilla and view elk, deer, bear and other wildlife along the way.
